The Conscious Lawyer is delighted to be teaming up with The Project for Integrating Spirituality, Law and Politics (PISLAP) to produce an inspiring and uplifting magazine issue. It will showcase the excellent work the PISLAP network has been doing in developing a new spiritually-informed approach to law and social change for more than twenty years.

Integrating Spirituality, Law and Politics and inspiring hope in these turbulent times.

As Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “Justice is love correcting that which revolts against love.” Our current legal system does not reflect this ethos; it is based on a competitive, antagonistic, and overly individualistic view of humanity that belies our common spiritual existence. PISLAP’s mission is therefore to lead a multi-disciplinary movement integrating spirituality, law, and politics that transforms the existing legal system in ways that promote healing, cooperation, and the advancement of human consciousness. As lawyers, politicians, professors, and concerned citizens, we are committed to speaking up about our spiritual values and transforming our governments, law schools, and legal institutions to reflect those values, with courage, integrity, and commitment to something greater than our individual desires and needs. By taking a holistic and spiritually-informed approach to law and social change, we are correcting all that which revolts against love in our legal system, and by extension our world. This is not just a movement but rather a way of life, one which honors and reflects our true nature as spiritually connected beings. Read more on the PISLAP Brochure here.

Are you a lawyer, legal academic or law student that is doing work which promotes and nurtures this healing world view in law? Do you feel inspired to write or create poetry or art about it? Whether you are a current PISLAP member or new to PISLAP, we would love to hear from you.

The Project for Integrating Spirituality, Law, and Politics (PISLAP, pronounced pie-slap) is a nationwide network of lawyers, law professors, law students, legal workers, and others who are seeking to develop a new spiritually-informed approach to law and social change. We believe that human beings long to live in a world in which people can fully recognize and affirm each other’s humanity and that law can help bring that world into being through new legal processes that foster empathy, compassion, and mutual understanding. This in turn requires a definition of justice that goes beyond what can be achieved through the clash of individual rights that characterizes the existing adversary system toward a vision of justice that is based on the healing of the alienation between self and other that is at the heart of so much social injustice and social conflict. To this end, we hold conferences, write books and articles, teach classes, have ongoing conference calls, and in other ways seek to support one another’s efforts to create a new legal system that can help to heal and repair the world.
